Essential Question: What is a spreadsheet or worksheet?

Start up: Students will be given an Excel Handout of the Excel screen. Students are to brainstorm similarities of Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Word. Write down 4 things that are similar comparing an Excel spreadsheet to a Word document.

Students will be given a brief introduction to Microsoft Excel and given some Excel activities so they may later insert an Excel spreadsheet into a Microsoft Word document.

Teacher will demonstrate using Netscape showing students ways that a spreadsheet may be sorted and organized using different worksheets in a workbook. Netscape allows what is on the teacher’s computer screen to be viewed on the student computers as well as using the overhead projector. This helps individualize instruction for students and helps them to be focused on what the teacher is teaching rather than being on the internet or trying to type while the teaching is instructing. The objective is to engage the students.
