Wednesday, November 14

Teacher will discuss and demonstrate how to hyperlink text in a document. With the hyperlink feature, users can quickly create text and image links to Web site addresses (URLs) directly within documents. Without having to exit Word, users can simply click on the links and be brought directly to the corresponding Web site.

To prepare for the Microsoft Certification test students will complete Activity 44 on pg. 89 in the Word It! Book.

Students will learn to hyperlink text to Web site addresses within a document
Students should follow all directions listed in the book
After completing assignment, students should test hyperlinks to see if done correctly
Students should save the document as COLLEGES

The next activity expands on Word’s hyperlink feature. In the following activity, students will hyperlink a set of images to Web site addresses within a Word document.

Students will complete Activity 45 Image Links on pg. 91 of the Word It! Book.
Students will hyperlink images to Web site addresses within a document.
Students should follow all directions in book and document should not exceed one page
Click on each hyperlink when finished to verify that each link has been entered correctly.
Save document in your Word folder as IMAGES.
 
Students will be given data files and format a term paper in MLA style.
Students will save the work as Word Project 1.

On Monday, students learned to use the AutoSum function in Excel.

Students will properly format a memorandum
Students will use the AutoSum function in an Excel worksheet inserted into a Word document.
Students will save the document in their Word folder as BUMPER.

Essential Question: What is a spreadsheet or worksheet?

Start up: Students will be given an Excel Handout of the Excel screen. Students are to brainstorm similarities of Microsoft Excel to Microsoft Word. Write down 4 things that are similar comparing an Excel spreadsheet to a Word document.

Students will be given a brief introduction to Microsoft Excel and given some Excel activities so they may later insert an Excel spreadsheet into a Microsoft Word document.

Teacher will demonstrate using Netscape showing students ways that a spreadsheet may be sorted and organized using different worksheets in a workbook. Netscape allows what is on the teacher’s computer screen to be viewed on the student computers as well as using the overhead projector. This helps individualize instruction for students and helps them to be focused on what the teacher is teaching rather than being on the internet or trying to type while the teaching is instructing. The objective is to engage the students.

Students will be guided through an excel activity and then given 2 other excel activities to work on independently. Teacher will walk around the room and monitor to ensure student’s understanding of the Excel activities.

Practice 1—Sales for the Month
Teacher will guide students through activity
Students will type in text and numbers in a worksheet
Format all numbers as currency
Center the Spreadsheet heading and merge cells A1-E1
Apply shading to Row 1 and 2
Center headings in Row 2
Create a formula to display a total for each sales rep
Create a formula to display a total for each product
Make an excel folder and save as "Sales for the Month"

Task Number 1- Gray’s Incorporated Outstanding Salesmen
Students will input data into an excel spreadsheet
Students will perform calculations using the autosum function.
Students will bold all headings and format numbers as currency.
Save as "Task Number 1" in your Excel folder

Task Number 2- Salary Package/Gray’s Executive Officers
Students will input data correctly into an Excel spreadsheet
Students will insert formula to determine salary package
Students must capitalize all proper nouns.
Students should bold headings and underline headings.
Left align text and right align numbers
Save as "Task Number 2"

Students will be given a daily grade on "Task Number 2" to ensure understanding.

5 pts. off will be deducted for:
Every formatting error (including alignment, underlining, capitalization)
Each wrong calculation of the salary package.

Start up: Finish Create and write a newsletter about GHS Homecoming using a template as a guide. Students should insert clipart appropriate to the content of the newsletter.

Monday, Oct. 22--Orders due for Homecoming t-shirts.  Long sleeved shirts are $15 and short sleeve shirts are $10. Shirts will be delivered during 4th period on Wed., Oct. 31

 

Tues.-Thurs. Oct. 23-25 we will vote for the Homecoming Court during both lunches.

 

Dance tickets will be sold during both lunches for $10 each beginning Monday, October 22 and sold until 

Friday, Nov. 2.

There will be no sales at the door and no discount for Platinum. If you attend with a date from another school, you must give the name of the student and the name of the school he/she attends.

 

 The week of October 29-Nov. 2 will be our Homecoming Spirit Week Dress days

Wednesday- America Day

Thursday-College day

Friday- Spirit Day

 

We will vote for Homecoming Queen during both lunches on Tues., Oct. 30- Thursday, Nov. 1.

 

The Homecoming Parade is Thursday, Nov. 1 around the Gainesville Square at 6:00. Please let me know if your club plans on participating. 

 

Friday, Nov. 2, we will have a pep rally. The cheerleaders and band will perform and well as some GHS students. The speaker at the pep rally will be Dr. Merrianne Dyer, the superintendent of Gainesville City Schools and City Councilwoman and former GHS teacher, Myrtle Figueras. Some senior football players will talk about the game against Loganville.

 

The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime of the football game that night.

 

The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8:30-11:00 at the Arts Depot.
